Big Dory

I know that boatdesign might be a better forum for this question, but I am not on it.
I know there are a lot of smart people here.
As I was looking at a 17' stitch and glue dory kit from Chesapeake Light Craft, I had the crazy idea of building an 85 foot model. Obviously I could just blow up the plans by a factor of 5--or maybe I couldn't?
If its so much bigger, maybe it makes more sense to build it as planks on frames?
It would be a simple and cheap sailboat for day sailing.
While I am at it, why not 170 feet?

Sent from an undisclosed location on the high seas or from the lounge chair by the pool, you decide.

Re: Big Dory

Oh boy, your gonna get roasted!

Yeah, I don't think it works that way. IIRC the concept is called Similtude, but I could be wrong.

In general as you go longer you get proportionally more narrow.

I'm sure others will chime in with a better explanation.

Look here for some larger sailing dory designs.
