Re: best way to sell a steel vessel

Looks like a properly set up engine room with Sea-chest and keel cooling ...for once someone did not take a shortcut.

George Sutton was recognized as one of the premier steel boat builders East of the Mississippi. He designed my last boat, and was a nice guy.

Re: best way to sell a steel vessel

This boat is truly something. However, it certainly is not a mum and dad cruiser. It is just too much.
When travelling Europe folk would say, when showing us around “The consort(s) of King ….. and his chancellor stayed here while visiting their estates in 15... “ In other words, anything so lavish has a history/provenance that may appeal to the wealthy or those who have higher aspirations (earned or not). So maybe you could espouse some similar feature to the boat’s glorious past. In today’s milieu you could mention rock’n roll stars, drug lords or some other hedonistic infamous characters.
To me (and my tub is a very basic 16 m ketch) your boat obviously has had a few small fortunes thrown at it and just sheer maintenance would be beyond the average income. You need to appeal to someone or maybe even a consortium (e.g. a group of business men who could collectively manage the costs) that could see themselves swanning around on such a glamorous vessel. Or impressing their acquaintances/mistresses.
The suggestion that the boat be presented at boat shows seems to be the way to go. Advertise in the appropriate journals such as business or high-end lifestyle magazines. Have you approached charter companies? They just may have a demand for specialist lavish vessels or at least they may inform you of possibilities and the market for such a boat.

hahah,, I' ve worked on the steel ketch for the last ten years and she is now as finished as you can get. The Aluminum sloop fell into my lap and will be another great project. I'm a glutton for punishment and just love to work on big boats!

Two brokers have looked at her and the consensus was just under a million dollars.

Actually it would make an excellent USCG inspected high end charter because it is a US made hull. Foreign hulls have to go through a stringent waiver program and are generally limited to 12 passengers with a huge amount of effort involved in order be USCG inspected vessels.

Nice.
Post specs and price.
As above, inside coating history critical.
Recent survey and sonic test if you have them.

Re: best way to sell a steel vessel

Thanks!... This vessel has had a history of coal tar, then International(PPG) coatings such as Amerseal, and Amerlock. Belzona Ceramic coating was also used in the ballast bilge. The last ultrasound was a couple spots of .023 and 99% .25 full grid. This is a 1/4" steel hull and is very fair without much compound. Also both Motor and Generator have dry exhausts. One intake seachest and only three thru hulls for head effluent, and watermaker.

What a tub! Do you expect to be able to sell that thing!

Ha ha just kidding. Really beautiful. Wow. Good luck selling it. Looks like you already have started to process.

Re: best way to sell a steel vessel

Lots of interest,,, now it just depends on who can come up with the $$$. It's a very bittersweet sale. I love this boat but it's time to let someone else take her to the dance. I have really enjoyed having the prettiest boat in the marina, yet another project fell into my lap so I just can't have two big boats!
