Sort of agree but this was a real deviation from the then current Oceanis range and built to a much higher standard to compete with the high end manufacturers. You only need to look at the Oceanis 58 vs the 57 and they are in different leagues.

Re: Benneteau 57

Nothing wrong with spade rudder, if it's properly designed and strongly built. . Other than Oyster, all high end boats have spade rudders now.

Don't know about the B57, but I've been on 60-odd foot CNBs built by the same Groupe B. Those things are nasty, extremely cheap and light construction, poor electricals, awful. Carefully assess quality and construction before buying a B57. Maybe they're better built than Groupe B's "luxury" marque, but how likely is that? ,

As B57 is really well build where is the difference ?
I have seen Amel/Oyster and B57 and when comes to compare the interior I must admit that high shelf builders are above the B57. But still when you compare the costs of purchase I would be happy with B57 interior.
What am I missing with B57 is rudder on skeg, I do not know how is hull build. But mostly all other "high end" boats are equipped with many additional power/electric units which cause the maintenance much more expensive than B57. Rigging, electronics, engine, shaft and other units are mostly this same on all these boats.

Re: Benneteau 57

And affirmed - IF the design and build are right, a self standing rudder is as good and safe as any other rudder.
