Bayfield 29 technical questions

I purchased this boat a month ago. The weather cleared enough for me to haul her home the 100 mile trip from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario. Upon trying to familiarize myself with the vessel's systems and to assess necessary repairs and upgrades, I ended up with more questions.

Hopefully some current or previous owners might be willing to assist me.

1. I found a forward and aft 12V bilge pump and a manual gulper in the cockpit (or so I thought). Oddly enough, the rubber boot is present, but no sign of a pump beyond that. Was this boat originally rigged with just the manual pump aft? If both, how was the discharge line tied into the outlet along with the electric pump? I'm seeing only one discharge for a pump at the transom, yet I definitely want a manual pump.

2. The boat does not have a garboard drain (which I knew) so during the storage at the broker's marina the annular space within the keel where the bilge pump is mounted (and without power) filled with water (and froze). I thawed it and pumped it out with a hand pump as soon as she was home. Has anyone successfully added a drain in this area? Or should't I bother with one?
