Bavaria Ocean series

All-

Relatively new user here, be kind....

I know there are not a lot of Bavaria lovers but I am looking for opinions specifically on the Bavaria Ocean series - hopefully based on firsthand knowlege.

This would be for cruising Maine until I retire and then (hopefully) head to the Bahamas/Caribbean. I don't envision going any farther than that.

Thanks!

I really like the Ocean series, in fact I almost bought one. The only thing that I was sceptical about was the way center cocpits evacuate water from the cockpit, through pipes/hoses in the engine room. Seems common knowledge that they are built well. The ones I looke at which had teak deck were all of them in bad shape and would need attention/replacement. You can find them withough teak decks though. There is a guy here in Norway, who has sailed one from Norway to the Carribean and back 38 foot.

Hope this info is helpfull.

Re: Bavaria Ocean series

Don't be mislead by the name (Ocean). They have the same hull of other Bavarias of that vintage and the only difference is the center cockpit that provides a bigger interior to the cost of less storage.

If you can spend some more try one of the first models from the Vision series. Those ones have different hulls, are heavier and carry more sail than the cruiser series of the day and curiously are slighter faster (more stiff boats).
