Anyone knows this sailing yacht?

Hi everyone,

I stumbled upon this beautiful sailing yacht in Menorca last night and I can’t get it out of my head. Unfortunately there was nobody at the Harbor at that time and my internet search didn’t yield any results.

Does anyone know the brand and model of this SY?

Name: SY Hermine
Current Location: Menorca, Spain

Best regards,
Falk

Re: Anyone knows this sailing yacht?

A classic Alden maybe? Anyway, a classic wooden boat of some distinction...

A lot of these old classics are famous and known by their names. Did you have any luck searching by her name?

For instance, my own true love is the classic Herreshoff Schooner Mariette:

Sigh!

I tried searching for her name but couldn’t find her unfortunately. There are some Ro-Ro vessels and large container ships with the same name, even excluded them based on MMSI, but still no luck… thus hoping someone on this forum might recognise her.

Reminds me of a specialty Morris yachts boat from the hull shape. I know they have done some special stuff. Wood boats are harder to identify because there has been so much customization between boats.

The cockpit coaming reminds me of some spirit yachts.

Sorry I can't answer the question either, though I agree with another who said it looked a bit like an Alden. Which made me think, why not ask an Alden expert? If they dont recognize it as one of theirs, they may know whose it is. There is an Alden Facebook group, maybe they can help.

Welcome to CF Falk and a nice first post too. Do please complete your profile, it helps.

And Little Wing certainly chimed in to the thread with another nice example of boat porn. Thanks Little Wing for reminding me that I should have been born to wealth and so could have enjoyed the pleasure of sleeping in that marvelous state room.

Re: Anyone knows this sailing yacht?

I was thinking it may have been a 42ft Alden Caravelle Yawl - but the rudder system looks completely different. I was able to find one more picture that shows the stern / rudder assembly..

Re: Anyone knows this sailing yacht?

She apparently belongs to the Fuastino Gran hotel/resort and is available for charter through them. While the odds are slim, they might be able to provide you some information. They list her at 16m/52'. I thought Rhodes when I first saw her, but any of the old school classics could be a candidate.

[Edit] Found the hotel's training manual online and it actually contains a section on their boats.

Hahaha!

I met Mariette at the Herreshoff Marine Museum's Classic Yacht Symposium which used to happen once every 4 years, like the Olympics. I'd rent a car and drive to Newport from TO just to camp and attend over 4 days.

That year, the Symposium featured Herreshoff Schooners. The Project Manager and Captain flew in to present an extensive seminar on Mariette's refit, which, if I remember correctly, took something like 4 years... <Sigh>

It was lovely!

Looks like a recent build modifying considerably an old look. That’s a modern rudder and wheel, new mast and boom.
