Anyone Know if this Boat Is Real (Everett, Lake Union)
I saw an ad for this boat, at about the same price, a few weeks ago. I talked with the guy on the phone a few times and was about 30 minutes away and couldn't get any response from him. He was supposedly flying in from Arizona or Nevada (can't remember which) and was stuck in the airport.
I was hoping to see the boat, as it sounded too good to be true, and wondering if it is indeed too good to be true. He had said he wanted to sell the boat that prior weekend to the highest bidder.
Wondering if it's just some guy poking around on craigslist for fun.

When I talked with him he said the boat was originally moored in lake union, temporarily in everett, and that he was going to move her down to lake union that weekend (several weeks ago).
CAL 40. Must go this weekend
He said the boat was re-done (sounded like for racing), 10' dinghy with steering station. Can't remember what else at this point.
Said he had sailed to Hawaii and back but moved out of state and hasn't been able to do much with the boat. Said he had one buyer do a survey but the deal fell through.

Any 1967 boat that is listed in perect condition, is questionable. It sounds like the owner is a little flaky though.

Oh, I think he may have said it was at guest or temporary moorage at the port of everett marina. Don't see how he could afford to keep a 40'er there for that long if he's desperate to sell. I think he mentioned he was a couple months behind on moorage at lake union.

Huh? No pictures. If he's out of money and can't afford a slip then maintenance is probably low on the list as well.
1967 is the early years of fiberglass so the boat is probably heavily built but I think CAL's had plywood cores then, don't know.

Check with the boat yard that did the re-fit and see what they know.

The seller claims to be showing it to four people today, jm21, so if you aren't already one of those people getting a first-hand look, you might want to get in touch with the seller and try to get included for the show-and-tell.
Good luck!

I sent him an e-mail earlier and no response yet.
EDIT:
I've heard of bored weirdos posting fake craigslist adds to screw with people for some weekend fun. Just seems fishy and was wondering if someone else had experience with a similar ad.

Hmmm . . . interesting. I sent him an email after I read this thread and he replied within two hours.
He wrote, "I am showing it today and have 4 people looking at her.. If I dont sell it I will get back to you."

if you check yachtworld, you'll see that this boat is at the low end for a Cal 40, but that at least one other has been sold at that price recently.
Great boat, Cal 40. Great boat.
