I never understood the logic of using
cheap plywood with the ability to shop around so easily on the
internet today. I quickly found on Gumtree (our craigslist) 12mm
marine ply for $50 a sheet and 12mm hardwood
plywood for $35 a sheet. Thats without even asking for a discount if you purchased a large amount of plywood. So using
cheap pine plywood with its knots and voids is hardly worth the hassle in my opinion.
But I have surveyed boats with pine plywood decks and some do seem to last and then other times the decks are rotten as.
I was on a nice Swanson 42 today in Tin Can Bay. The
interior was well built and it really feels like a little ship when you step down below
