What a great advertisement for Amel.

Makes me wonder what your first boat was.

Re: Amel 50 - my experiences

Did you ever consider also the Moody DS50 in your choices?
If not, why not?
Thanks in advance

Re: Amel 50 - my experiences

BigNurse: Yes - I was on Moody - but it is not center cocpit solution - I was not fun of it (superstructure aslo hinders visibility) - and saloon organization was not my world
if you also compare 1:1 matirials quality - you will notice that Amel is more solid I think

Re: Amel 50 - my experiences

unfortunately Covid 19 stopped a little handover process in France - I was only watching her and live on boat for a week ... in the marina ...just for now - but this month I am expecting the end of the last works and test sailing .....

....of course I will give you reports when it will be finalized

Re: Amel 50 - my experiences

Thanks for making this thread, MarcinG. I'm very interested to hear how the handover process goes.

Would you mind going over the rig/sail options you chose and why you did or did not choose certain options?

Re: Amel 50 - my experiences

I added Code0 to the standard sails plan and also genacer. (standard sails plan is main, genoa and stysail).
I am not specialist and very expirienced sailor so it was hard form me to decide asimetrical spinacer or genacer - there are some differences but in the end it is not a sport sailboat and second thing is space in the sail locker - there is still some place for third sail but..... if it will be realy nessesery I will buy it in second year.
Code0 is nessesery in my opinion becouse genoa on Amel 50 is ca. 100% so relatively small and I also had a good expiriences on other boats with Code0.

so for a crusing boat it is in my opinion enough sails but...... let me see during next few months

Thanks for the response. Did you get the code 0 with the Amel electric furler or are you using a manual furler? Do you know the brand and specs of the sail that Amel uses for the furling gennaker? Do you have a sail plan in mind for sailing DDW?

Re: Amel 50 - my experiences

I actually up-spec'd my boat to North Sails 3di Ocean sails for the main/jib/staysail...
the code 0 (NPL Code Xi Xi06 CDT) and the Gennaker (Norlon NY250) are also from North sails...

I did get the electric furler for the code 0..

as for dead down wind... really I'll need to simply use her! I'll need to learn the boat to really effectively answer that question.

Cheers,
-Justin

Are you keeping the code zero mounted further out on the bow pulpit (so three furling headsails in total) or are you keeping it in the sail locker? Saw them do the furling code zero on the 60 and seems like a very nice solution to keep the amount of work down.

I didn’t get it directly from Amel. It is SailService from Poland and with manual furler.

Re: Amel 50 - my experiences

@letterkenny - I have the same furler for the lightwind sails that is on the 60 with a controller at the helm. This was an option from Amel. it's removeable so it doesn't stay up permanently per se.

so i'll keep it stored in the sail locker when I'm not using my light wind sails.

Thanks for the info! So what sails did you end up choosing?
