Allied Seabreeze with CB

Considering an old (1970) Allied Seabreeze. Anyone have comments about this boat? Unfortunately it would have to be transported across the country. Does anyone here have a rough idea what it costs to transport a 35' boat from NY to Vancouver?

I is a project boat but may have good bones. This leads to another question. These old Allied boats have a cb. I have never sailed this pivoting type of cb. Don't they "thump" in a chop? I mean the idea seems a good one but do they work?

Many people talk about the good seaworthy qualities of the old Allied boats. Is this true?

If I'm not mistaken an Allie Seabreeze was the first fiberglass production boat to circumnavigate.

I used to drool over one in 1970 in New Orleans.

...certainly not fast but also certainly a VERY seaworthy vessel.

When I was looking for my classic plastic, the Seabreeze was number one on my list. Think they are the finest looking classic in the size range. Unfortunately, couldn't find one on the West Coast and settled for Pearson 35.

The Seabreeze board is bronze on the older boats and ballasted aluminum, IIRC, on the newer boats. Believe there can be issues with the aluminum board from corrosion. Other than that, the boats are solidly built and supposedly a joy to sail. FWIW, the board in my Pearson will thump back and forth at anchor and running dead downwind but is dead quiet with the board up. Since you shouldn't have the board down in those conditions, it's not an issue as I just raise the board. The Seabreeze board may be another story as it's much heavier than the board on the Pearson.

There is a website devoted to the Seabreeze thpugh ot doesn't like muchis going on as the last activity listed was in '05. Allied Seabreeze Association.

It was not the Seabreeze that circumnavigated but the Allied Seawind Ketch. It was the first FRP boat to go round the world.

Shipping will cost you upwards of 10K. Friend of mine shipped his Nauticat 33 from Michigan to Oregan cost was 12.5K, was more because the trucker had to run up to Rogers City. That was last year when fuel costs where alot less.

Thanks for the info gentlemen. It looks like this is the project boat I've been looking for unfortunately I've been shot out of the water due to the transport cost. I guess I'm have to keep looking...

This probably wouldn't work for a project boat but it's something to think about. Shipping from Texas to San Diego is way shorter than shipping from the East Coast to the PNW because of the distance. Delivering a boat from most places on the East Coast to Texas would probably take less than two weeks sailing outside all the way. Then deliver the boat up the West Coast on it's own bottom. Could be done in a month if you stayed inshore. Biggest problem is time and the need for a good engine for the slog up the West Coast.

What you propose is what I was thinking of doing. The costs and time factor cancelled out the Seabreeze.

Friends have one. They thought they wanted a different boat and bought a used boat after Isabella totaled the Seabreeze. They kept the Seabreeze thinking they could fix it anyway and sell it. They decided they like the Seabreeze better than the Sabre so they are hard at it. They have a rendezvous every year on the Chesapeake and they seem like a fun group. We hosted it at the yacht club one year.

We have the Seabreeze that was trashed in the hurricane. It is a great boat and we are anxious to get her back in the water. She is very seakindly and with low freeboard doesn't provide too much windage under way. She is a beauty with classic lines. Good value for the money. Ours was built in '64 and has a bronze board. There are a few for sale in the east.
