Re: Ahoy Carbineer 46 Owners

Im looking for a new electric stove for our Cabineer. We currently have a Roden Compact but they seem to have gone out of business. The Force 10 electric looks good but not available in Australia for reasons unknown. We don't want to go to gas . Does anyone know of another brand available?

Hi Mike,
My wallet probably isn’t deep enough, but you might look up this one. They make great kit, but…. https://gn-espace.com/product/oceanc...uction-cooker/

Looks great but like the Force 10 It will have to be imported. None of the agencies here import full electric stoves. I will contact them for a price .
Thanks for that .

CARBINEER WINDOW FRAMES: A CAUTIONARY TALE
Dear All, I have ripped out the horrible AHMoody aluminium frames for my pilothouse windows and have installed modern glued-in (actually glued-on) windows. Proper glass except for the two outer fwd-facing corners, which had to be plastic. Look great.
BUT I have messed up. It’s cost me a stack to install new wood interior frames for the side windows, but my boatbuilder expert abd I have made a mess of the four fwd facing windows. To fill the gap inside created by removing the ali frames (the gap between the original wood trim and the inside face of the new glass), we cut and fitted some form of rubber ribbon, but it looks bad.
I am considering have the four windows removed so we can make up completely new interior frames before refitting the windows. I guess 5000 to 8000 nz dollars to do the job.
Also, I have yet to work out how to set up storm boards if I decide I should ( or am required by some inspector to) fit them: the glass panels are now proud of the fibreglass structure by several millimetres, so I need to fit spacers but am reluctant to fit them until needed as they will be unsightly if left fitted around the windows, and would make stowage more difficult if I fit the spacers onto the boards themselves.
I hope anyone who is replacing these pilothouse windows plans the job much better than I did!
BTW, I also replaced the portlights in the hull with similarly glued-on glass, and new interior frames were also very expensive….
Good luck to all!
Keith

Re: Ahoy Carbineer 46 Owners

So yours is UK Moody built Carbineer . Could you post some pics of the interior fit out. We are doing a lot of interior work atm replacing galley floor & lots of varnish work. Do you have the pistol inlays in the bow .

Re: Ahoy Carbineer 46 Owners

Will post photos soonish when I get back to the boat (am a bit convalescent right now).
I needed a few moments to grasp what you mean by “pistol inlays”: I am guessing you mean an outline of a Carbineer pistol moulded into the bow? Alas, I do not; is that a feature you have on Aus boats?

No the Aussie built boats don't have the pistol molded in but most of the UK Moody boats do.

Re: Ahoy Carbineer 46 Owners

Dear All, my Moody 52 Carbineer is for sale
It is in really good condition with no deferred maintenance (eg, I have had virtually every electric motor taken off, dismantled and fully serviced in the last two years or so).
It is listed with The Yachs Sales Co (www.yachtsalesco.com)
Sad to sell but I no longer have any willing crew so I will get a very much smaller boat I can put on a trailer…
Best wishes

Hi Mike,
No My boat is in much better condition! Was L’Equilibre when I bought her in 2013 via Ancasta, Palma de Mallorca. Now duty and tax paid in NZ, but I guess that doesn’t help Aussies!

I purchased this boat about a year ago. It is now located at Soldiers Point, Port Stephens NSW.
It is a great boat. Has a Mercedes OM352 engine.
I’m interested to know if any other boats have this engine ?

Re: Ahoy Carbineer 46 Owners

Hi Kitani
Most have a Volvo mine has a Yanmar 4LH-Dte 170 hp. Yours is a very early version before Lasky brothers purchased the boat yard. Most if not all Carbineer's were pre ordered & built to owners specifications . I haven't hear of any others having a Mercedes. It may have been re-engined at some stage.

Mercedes engines were common in those boats. I'm pretty sure Lasky's own C46 had one. Cheers.
