I should have looked at your link...SB sailing center was the place back 20 yrs ago..enjoy.
PS...don't buy a boat and expect to moor it off the SB coast...used to be an option, but with any good storm we would see a sailboat end up on the beach.

cal 2-27 has standin head room built very well and will always bring you home

not so much head room but solid boat and very forgiving

IMHO the Cal 20 is a great starter boat. Agree with everything mentioned about the ASA courses and also suggest sailing with others. A great way to do that is join a yacht club. If you really want to own a boat and learn how to maintain it the Cal 20 might be a great place to start (the Catalina 27 is also a dandy). I was a partner in a Cal 20 when in grad school and sailed that boat all over the Bay and out the Gate more than once. Very forgiving and solid as a rock.
