Have you had a look at this Boreal 47?

I have now!

Sorry for the slow reply Mssr Goat. Thanks for the tip off. It’s a nicely appointed and well equipped Boreal and someone will love it, along with its immediate availability - another drawcard.

The main reason I’m looking closely at the Bestevaer 45 instead of the similar Boreal and Garcia offerings is its sportier hull shape, sail plan and ballast ratio. The key difference with the Bestevaer is that it can be made with a fully weighted variable draft centreboard (or with a fixed keel - you choose), with an impressive ballast ratio of 37% (38% with the keel). It’s also slimmer, pointier and a touch lighter than the other two. Boiled down, it should sail better. I like that. The setup of the pilot house is ideal too, in my eyes. And the cockpit.

So this is where I’m at - comparing the Bestevaer 45 Pure with the Hallberg-Rassy 44. My wife and I are actively discussing whether the superior ruggedness, unfussyness and ultimate seaworthiness of the Bestevaer can outweigh the better all-round liveability and attractiveness of the Hallberg-Rassy. It’s an enjoyable discussion. We wonder if it will have an end and so we’ve set notional decision dates, which we will feel free to skip over. 😀
