6 months at a time

We are in the process of boat shopping for a boat for 1/2 year sailing the Caribbean and 6 months from July - Dec back on land.

So we have been looking at a Catalina 42 and Bene 393 when we thought we were going full time liveaboard.

Now we are only looking a 6 month on board I wonder if we could down size some and save money for the kitty.
Say something from a 34 - 36, like catalina's or something along that ilk or even a Sabre 38 mk1.

So the question is, would you buy a smaller boat if only going for 6 moths at a time and not full time liveaboard?

Re: 6 months at a time

6 months at a stretch is still a long time. If you can keep the boat under 40, it will be less expensive. 40 is a magic number. You were looking at a Catalina 42. Have you looked at the 400? We have friends with one, and I love that boat.

Re: 6 months at a time

I think that if you stayed near your home port you could do with a smaller boat but if go cruising you need just as much stuff for 6 months as you do for 12.
