44' Brewer CC Sloop vs Gulfstar Hirsh 45'

I have narrowed my search to one of the two boats. I will be sailing extensively 6 mos of the year, living aboard in the islands and possibly making a trip or two to mexico and once to alaska.

The Brewer CC 44' sloop, 1988 is in pristine condition with a swing Keel, The Gulfstar 45' Hirsch, 1987, is also in great condition but has outdated instrumentation but has in-boom furling system. 3/4 keel and spade rudder.

Which would be the better boat. I want a boat that is still standing should we get into unexpected weather, easy to single hand, and make a great liveaboard and long distance cruiser (florida to Alaska)

No contest. The Brewer !! Don't think you can really compare the two.

I second that notion, go with the Brewer. I built and have been sailing one for 20 years.

I researched and considered both in the past. If similar price and condition I would get Brewer.

Not to be insulting, but since you had to ask the question I have to question you.

My only question would concern the Brewer's build quality. Get a survey.

If the survey proves that the quality goes deeper than the cosmetics, then I would opt for the Brewer.

Ted Brewer does respond to e-mails. If you have questions about one of his designs, I would ask him.
