Go ahead put a 3 blade on ! Go from 2 blade to 3 you need to talk to a prop compan They can tell you size and pitch.

3 blade prop for a hunter 33

When you talk to them you need to be able to tel them boat weight, engine RPM max and transmission ratio, and left or right hand prop

Re: 3 blade prop for a hunter 33

Tom,
I have a Hunter 2003 356 and just went through the same exercise. Went from fixed 2 blade (original spec) to fixed 3 blade. Did not want to dump a bunch of money into a folding prop so settled on a Campbell Sailor 3 blade by West by North Industries located in Canada.
This prop almost always comes at the top of the list for fixed 3 blade props for a mix of thrust, reversing power and low drag (relative).
Have the 27 HP Yanmar with 1 inch shaft and fitted a RH 15x9 prop BUT would have them spec out the correct model for you dependent on boat model, engine size and transmission gearing.
Splashing next week so I can't tell you how well it works but am looking forward to finding out.

Re: 3 blade prop for a hunter 33

Like the post above, I put a Campbell Sailer [sic] on my 32-ft. Catalina w/29-hp diesel, and it works well...better thrust and minimal drag (for a 3-blade).

But you gotta contact the company for its (much-better-experienced) recommendation on size and pitch. Clearance could be an issue with larger-diameter prop.

Re: 3 blade prop for a hunter 33

been there done that, started with a Yan 3GM on a C&C 36, with a fixed 2 blade- poor performance + vibration, changed to a 3 blade Michigan sized by the factory- was like dragging an anchor- lost at least 1/2 knt under sail, shifted to a 3 blade Campbell sailer - a bit less drag but generally compromised performance in forward and reverse, changed to a 2 blade flexofold, - good performance but vibration again, they gave us credit towards a 3 blade which finally is the real deal at a lot less money than feathering props and no maintenance issues after about 8 years. If you never sail then a Michigan 3 blade is fine.
Good luck, Emile
