It depends.
Some will be braver (more foolhardy) than others, some even row across oceans.
But best to choose a model that's already been there, successfully survived making rough passages under different crews.
To me, even if I never do true
blue water or RTW, I want to start with a
boat that I know could be upfitted to do so if I ever decide to go for it,
without having to start over again with another
boat new to me.
And since my preference is a
small boat, by today's standards, and older models, that additional filter doesn't have to add much cost to the initial
purchase price.
Getting it fully ready may easily cost 10x that initial amount over a few years.
