26ft Crown Point Dory

After quite a bit of searching i have found a 76 26ft Crown Point Dory. It has new sails, new sail bags, new upholstery, 2006 9.9 Suzuki 4 stroke, and was painted and refitted in 06. The owner is the original and he has taken good care of her. Her hull and cabin are fiberglass over 1/2in marine grade plywood, she is a gaff rigged ketch with a foresail. She'll sleep 3 or 4 comfortably. She drafts 18in with her centerboard up and seems to fit my wants and needs fairly well. I am new to this size boat and to long distance travel, I am just hoping for some input. I would want to sail her with a couple friends to the Bahamas. Is this plausible or am I having wild notions and illusions of grandeur. I have attempted to attach a picture all though I'm not sure if i have done it right.

I don't think I would go with 3 people in that boat much further than Ocracoke, never mind to the sea bouy. Now, by myself that's another story. I have just bought a hunky dory which is a cousin to that boat and I have spoken to the builder who is 70 somthing and lives in Wilmington. Dorys don't go to windward too well, well not at all but you knew that , right?

Welcome to the forum of many opinions. Because of dry rot issues that are prevelant here in Hawaii most everyone stays away from glass over ply for hull materials. We just had a 35 footer that sunk going from the Big Island to Oahu "Dream Maker" which was a lot like the construction of your boat. Be cautious and check everything often. Stay way ahead of all maintenance issues and it might be a good boat for you. If it were me I'd look for an all fiberglass boat. No cored hulls or decks.
