Is there something wrong with Clark attempting to build the fastest sailboat?
Or is he just not allowed to talk about it?

Re: 24 hour monohull distance record broken
He's allowed to build it and to talk about it. But when his best effort is ~40% slower than the actual fastest sailboat, well....

Re: 24 hour monohull distance record broken
If this is how much complaining we get when someone attempts a record in a monohull and falls short, lets hope that the monohulls never catch up.

He can't claim to have the "fastest boat ever built" when it isn't. Not by miles. Not by hundreds of miles......

If someone ever manages to build a mono faster than any other boat, including the fastest multihull, then he or she can honestly claim to have "The fastest boat ever built."
Until then though...
But gee, nearly 300 miles, it's a long way to catch up...

Doesn't a kite board have the fastest wind powered record? Does anyone know of a kite board with good cruising accommodations and adequate tankage?

That sounds very tiring. I once drove from Miami to Boston in 23 hours straight through. If I were on a kite board, I would still be recovering 20 years later.

Re: 24 hour monohull distance record broken
A kite board did for a short while, but Vestas Sailrocket 2 currently holds the absolute short distance speed record under sail at 65.45 knots, a full 10 knots faster than the fastest kite board or windsurfer.

Re: 24 hour monohull distance record broken
I think the umbrage comes because clearly this gets us back to the dark ages when a multihull wasn't a boat. If the news reports are correct, Mr. Clark said "the fastest boat ever built":
you can search that quote on the Web and find it over and over again (could all be from the same, wrong source - the internet is always correct). Had he said "the fastest monohull sailboat ever built" then none of us would care. But when we seem to be headed back to the days where the craft we sail aren't really "boats", well....

Re: 24 hour monohull distance record broken
Today a Grumman Goose flying boat came in to Isthmus Cove, Catalina Island, California, USA. It has an airspeed of about 200 miles per hour. Does that count?

I don't get what ruckus is all about. Sure its an impressive boat, but If you look at the list of records posted earlier he clearly epically failed on building "the fastest boat ever built".
There are a number of faster 24 hour runs, so what record is it that he actually broke?
Was he even aboard?

are you referring to this quote:
When Texan billionaire Jim Clark spent more than $15 million on the 100-foot yacht Comanche, he had one aim in mind: “the fastest boat ever built”.
I think the key phrase is "one aim in mind"
I agree that that quote might be wrong. If it is not, I see nothing wrong with aiming to be the fastest boat ever built.
If I do see a quote of him saying my boat is the fastest sailboat in the world, then yes I would agree he is delusional.

And so far, as we've been saying, he's failed. Massively.

Sorry I thought people were saying that he claimed to have the fastest boat ever built.
Such as a statements like this that you made:
"He can't claim to have the "fastest boat ever built" when it isn't. Not by miles. Not by hundreds of miles...... "
So far I have yet to see a quote where he claimed to have the fastest boat ever built. So he attempted and failed....woopie.
