Re: 1992 Koopmans 38 casco for completion?

Built a Westsail 32 from a bare hull with engine installed. Worked 14/7/365 and launched boat without mast, rigging drawers and cabinet doors in a year. Another year to finish it and get it ready to sail to SoPac at a reduced work pace. It was a better built boat than factory and I knew every inch of her. Could have bought a factory finished boat and left two years earlier for about the same cost.

Re: 1992 Koopmans 38 casco for completion?

Looking at one of the photos is that a stack of plywood I can see inside the boat? If not you might want to measure the companionway diagonally and see what width of plywood you can get in? No boat builder is going to want to cut good sheets of plywood down just to get them inside the yacht. I have seen this done on a Roberts where 900mm was the max width and it took the owner builder so much longer to complete his boat. He should have cut a hole in the deck and put full width sheets inside.
Cheers

I actually just studied this boat yesterday and I found it quite appealing. I don't know the brand but it looks like an Alubat. If it's Alubat quality then it should be good enough for me. Does anyone have some experience with DuJardains?

I can easily understand why they switched from sail to power in Belize. I loved the country but it's a nightmare to get to Placencia from Switzerland. With it's draft, the boat could easily be stored in Rio Dulce, a scenario on which I have been thinking of a lot, before, actually.

If I had like six months off from my job, I would probably fly there and have a look at it.

Hello,

If you are looking for an Aluminium Koopmans ( with a little work ) see:

http://www.bachyachting.com/yachts/157853/koopmans-37/

This vessel could have a paint job and in about 5 - 10 years a new teak deck. The rest is as perfect as it can be. Just make the.owner a good offer.
