1973 Allied Mistress 39

Ahoy all, as I explained in my introduction thread, we are curerntly looking for a new floating home. Every one gave great advice on my questions about the 70s Irwins (center cockpit)

Now we have found a 1973 Allied Mistess 39. I know this is a vague and broad question, does any one have experience or comments (neg/pos) on this old gal. It has the center cockpit and two companionways (we liked that), the engine "room", is an actual room, lol which is nice. We have read they have thick hulls and built like tanks. Also, apparently they are fairly rare? and hold their value well?

It is priced the same as first, 1973 Irwin 37 we saw that is in perfect sail away shape, and the Allied does need some work. Equipment on both are comparable. Thanks again, for any comments, Craig

Allied had a reputation for building solid boats capable of offshore voyaging. They were definitely a big step up from the Irwins. The Mistress is a cruising boat that's not going to win any races but will be very comfortable making passages and capable of carrying a lot of gear that weighs down the cruiser/racer types. IIRC, the boat has a pretty shallow draft so won't be a great boat to windward.
