commentary is hard to listen to; even by French standards of the seventies, Gérard was inclined to philosophise and use very flowery and poetic turns of phrase... which is bearable, even cute, in French, but doesn't translate well
(and the English
translation is read by an educated and earnest nicely-spoken Englishman, which just makes it more incongruous)
For all that it's an absolute must-see for anyone interested in polar navigation
