Moore 24 around Cape Horn

We got an e-mail from Webb asking for information on the Falklands . . . he is apparently setting off on a moore 24.. Typically Webb he said "I am not in fact setting off on a new adventure. I'm just going sailing and hope that the voyage will be completely uneventful."

he's one of my favorite 'world cruisers' . . . he took Moitessier place as the passionate poet of the sea.

Jeeze.

I raced one of those on a river, and it was a wet ride in a chop. They are like crawling around inside a surf board... More power to him, but I can only imagine how cold and wet that ride will be.

I followed his blog while he was getting the Moore ready, a few years ago. Your description "crawling around inside a surfboard" seems apt to me but to a guy who made what, 1 1/2 or 2 around the worlds in an open boat it may feel quite homey.

Ronnie Simpson won the 2012 Singlehanded Transpac in a Moore 24.

Re: Moore 24 around cape horn

Quite a few Moore 24's have done the San Francisco to Hawaii Pacific Cup (and three more are signed up for the July 2014 race). The Hawaii run is certainly nothing like a Cape Horn rounding, but the boats have proven themselves in some challenging conditions.

Got to say, I been to Hawaii and to Cape Horn, and they are rather different

But Webb has been down there and knows what he is getting into.

This is a correction to the comment made by fstbttms three posts back:
The 2012 SHTP was won by Jim Quancy on a Cal 40. Ronnie Simpson on the Moore 24 was 5th.

I stand corrected. However Simpson did win his class.

Re: Moore 24 around cape horn

Having lived in Santa Cruz for a long time and built 2 boats at Ron Moores Boat yard, I know those boats well. Very sturdy for what they were. I have talked to Ron on a few occasions and even he is amazed at the accomplishments of his Moore 24.
Can anyone post Webb's site?

I believe it was not quite all the way, once, in an open boat. Could be wrong.
