A new study by a Danish/Canadian
research team has dispelled the notion that the Eastern and Western Viking colonies in
Greenland disappeared in the 14th Century due to their inability to adapt to the new conditions of the Little Ice Age. This new study, based upon skeletal remains, shows that their diet consisted of 50 to 80% seal meat and that their disappearance is now believed to be one of migration to
Iceland,
Norway or further south to North America.
