Re: Greenland - Baffin - Labrador

It is allright. The only place you need to keep a sharp eye is eastern Greenland and the Prins Christian sund. Iceland, Nova Scotia, Scotland, Newfoundland etc are completely ice free. Only north of the Grand Banks are large icebergs, but they are deadly for 300m long vessels as well.

Depart after the end of June and you well be OK. But as I said, watch out in Eastern Greenland. Usually there is a lot of icefloes at the east end of the Prins Christian sund and around cape farvel.

You might have to sail around it which might take 300 extra miles of sailing on your way from greenland to Iceland.

Ice charts.
Updated on a daily basis.
Ice charts

Greenlandic Ice Service info.
About the ice service

The part about bringing a gun, no need to, you just go and buy it in any city, rifle or shotgun no permit needed, do NOT bring any handgun, not legal.

Enjoy, it’s a beautiful country.

Re: Greenland - Baffin - Labrador

There are no polar bears in southern Greenland, I wouldn't worry to much about bringing a rifle.

Indeed it is one of the most amazing countries on the planet...

Re: Greenland - Baffin - Labrador

Are you saying that tourists are allowed to shoot reindeer?

Re: Greenland - Baffin - Labrador

Take a copy of Tillman's Voyages,or anything by Peter Fruechen; you and crew will be mightily awed when you read of these adventures (misadventures) in your cockpit by the light of the midnight sun. Still dream of going myself.

I will try to position report on YOTREPS.

Black and yellow - got it.

Frunchen, yes. Just reread his bio. I also have some Stephenson and Nansen.

Project Gutenburg for free downloads of classics.
