An Antidote to Innocence Lost
Lee Wulff, famous artist, sailor and fly fisherman produced a film in 1970 for the Newfoundland Department of Tourism. It is a nostalgic look into a time forgotten as a doctor sails with his wife and two boys along the eastern coast of Newfoundland in his 25 foot sailboat. They sail, fish, swim and explore the bountiful beauty of this beautiful island and its civilized and warm people and one cannot help but ask: how far have we come since then? I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Thanks for this time machine. We've come a long way fast, but the compass is broken.

Re: An Antidote to Innocence Lost
Very sweet movie. Reminds me a lot of our family cruises in Maine, even now in this modern age. Except the part about "you can always catch a cod" . . .

Re: An Antidote to Innocence Lost
Just found this video. Thanks for posting.
Many things have changed, and many are the same. Water is STILL too damn cols for swimming unless you a Newfie. Fewer folks on the water now, fewer fish. Towns are smaller in general, crept for a few.
This is my cruising ground. Happy Adventure is a few hours away across the bay. Been there, East Port, and past Salvadge. Our crowd is in Plate Cove.
Great place to sail. Funny they didn't mention the whales, but maybe they are making a comeback from then.

Beautiful ... thanks Rognvald .
My father's people come from NFLD, and we hope to be cruising some of those shores beginning 2015. This blast from the past fills me with anticipation.

Great sail down memory lane when time was not measured in megabytes per second
Had the same experiences in the PNW during that era. Priceless privilege!

We've loved sailing in Newfoundland & Labrador. Thanks for posting this. Gotta admit I winced at the "galley slave" reference!

Re: An Antidote to Innocence Lost
Hi Howard,
Yes we did. Picked up a Hans Christian 38 Telstar in Lunenburg. I'll get around to updating the blog someday soon. Our new project boat!
We're giving a talk Feb. 26 at Fawcetts in Annapolis on our Labrador Adventures with some Newfoundland in there too. Drop in if you're in the neighborhood!
And anyone else . . .
