Re: Volunteer looking to learn to sail

Hi, Cobu,

Your chances will go up significantly if you list your experience.
Sounds like you’re a complete beginner.

If so, I suggest you get yourself on a 5-day RYA competent crew course.
That will teach you the basics of handling a yacht and a taste of what it’s like living on board.

You’ll find people much more willing to take you on if you’re not a complete newbie.

Hey Colin,
Take a look at crew sites such as crewbay, crewseekers, crewfinder or dockwalk.

Re: Volunteer looking to learn to sail

@ChrisJHC - I am a total beginner, thank you for the course recommendation, booking that course for the end of Feb...the journey begins ;-)

@GordMay - thanks boet, have heard about the amazing culture of the sailing community and the welcome is appreciated.

@Warren2 - my cv is "__________" (empty) won't be after Feb though, tx to @ChrisJHC

@Craig_Cape_Town - tx my boet, will check those out. Are you Cape Town based? Looking to head back home for a visit this year and wouldn't mind connecting with Sailing folks.

Update your profile with your location. That will help.

If you were in Florida already, I would pay you to sail to Panama with me

Re: Volunteer looking to learn to sail

Welcome.

I would suggest updating your profile with your general location and your boat make & model or “Looking to Crew” in the "Boat" category. This info shows up under your UserName in every post in the web view. Many questions are boat and/or location dependent and having these tidbits under your UserName saves answering those questions repeatedly. If you need help setting up your profile then click on this link: https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...ml#post3308797

I would happily help more if the link above is not enough.
