Re: Volunteer delivery crew - Tahiti to Auckland, December

Hi all,
Somebody further up asked for an update when we got back, so here it is..
We are back in NZ, ended up leaving on boxing day and arriving on the 16th after diverting to Tonga to dodge a nasty tropical storm off the NZ coast. Had a pretty good, but slightly bumpy trip, with no major dramas. Now we just need to sell the house and 90% of our stuff, upgrade a few bits on the boat, and then get out of here..

Trevorl sounds like a quick trip. Glad to hear you made it home safely.

I echo the sentiments of F & A: glad you made it.

If you’re at all like we were, you’ll need to sell 99% of what isn’t boat related along with your house. However, one thing we really wish we hadn’t sold was our car’s picnic set - the pair of folding chairs and table would’ve been perfect for sundowners on the beach. Sigh. Small kitchen applicants such as stick blenders are nice to have if you have the room -your boat will be your home and space/weight permitting you’ll want most of the same things barring furniture and garden stuff. Try to enjoy the process.

Cheers.
We lived in a really small place for 4 years while we were building the house, so we are already whittled down a bit, but still have way too much crap, err, stuff. About 10% of what's left is either boat related or the subset of my tools that I'm taking, so I'll stick with my original estimate..
Though other people's experience tends to suggest we will have another clean out in about 6 months..

How was your experience with the volunteer crew and the boat? Also what was the most important lesson from the trip?

cheers
