Two volunteer crew wanted: Honolulu to Puerto Vallarta Mexico

Departing Hawaii mid-January 2023
Join my wife and I for a safe and easygoing passage on our sturdy 53-foot steel ketch. The journey will take round 30 days. Our boat has a large inventory of equipment, hot showers, some StarLink internet, a huge onboard entertainment library and more. Sailing experience is not necessary as all training will be provided. You must be able to cook well and speak good English. We’ll split food costs. Moderate drinking and smoking is OK. Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems is to your advantage. Please email a cover letter and resume listing two referees to darreltrueman@gmail.com

Re: Two volunteer crew wanted: Honolulu to Puerto Vallarta Mexico

Thank you for your interest in joining our sailboat crew here in Hawaii for a voyage to Mexico. Since we arrived here a couple of days ago, we have consulted with well-experienced sailors and locals about the best time to make the monthlong crossing. The consensus is that a prudent sailor would wait a few months until weather and sea conditions are far more favorable. In the interest of safety for our crew and our boat, we will happily heed that strong advice. Instead, we’ll spend the next few months sailing between the Hawaiian Islands, preparing for departure.

We’ll commence our search for crew again at that time and we hope you’ll watch for our advertisement.

Wise decision! It is heartening to hear of a skipper w ho actually listens to advice and then alters original plans to reflect that advice.

Enjoy cruising the islands, and then have a good passage east.

Re: Two volunteer crew wanted: Honolulu to Puerto Vallarta Mexico

curious.

which route did you plan to take?
..since the prevailing NE winds are basically blowing directly from your destination.

did you plan to do the traditional head north until finding westerly winds and then cruise south to mexico? (correct me if i'm wrong..this was best done late spring to summer)

would i assume you wait out cyclone season on west coast usa?

..or the southerly route to central america(and then motor back upstream? ..which i believe is best done in october/early november (after storm season there)

not to be a party popper but going to honolulu to puerto vallerta in the same season will be a challenge..
