Seattle Lake Washington area first and on to Vancouver

I am purchasing a Hunter Passage 45 that should close by Sept 8. I have 10 years of sailing experience with my old Catalina 27' in windy SF. More recently, I crewed 2 months on a Beneteau 46' from Maryland to Florida last fall. I have much to learn about my Hunter Passage 45 and adventure sailing. I'm looking for crew to sail Lake Union and Lake Washington to become familiar with the boat. After that, to the waters of Puget Sound and beyond. I do not have an absolute time table TBD. Share duties and some expenses. ⛵️

Re: Seattle Lake Washington area first and on to Vancouver

Hi Mark,

Congratulations on the Hunter 45!

I live in Seattle and I have been learning to sail the past two years.

ASA 101,103,104,114
Multiple flotillas in the San Juan Islands
Chartered a Leopard 45 for a a week in the Caribbean

With the exception of the two sailing courses below I have a lot of flexibility this fall.
Sept 23rd - 24th ASA 105 Classroom
October 7 - October 13 ASA 106 41ft Catamaran San Juan Islands

Feel free to e-mail me patrickosewalt@gmail.com to see if our interests align.

Thanks Patrick

Re: Seattle Lake Washington area first and on to Vancouver

Hi Mark -

Congratulations on the new boat!

I recently relocated from the SF Bay area to Seattle (just this month). During my time in SF, I was part of a charter / sailing training outfit for the past 8+ years. This led me to finally purchase my own Beneteau 43' last year (still need to sail it up here). Like yourself, I have been focused on larger boats but need experience sailing in and around the Puget Sound.

Happy to throw my name in for consideration as crew. Please feel free to drop me an email at roberteikel@gmail.com.

We could always schedule a quick meet up somewhere to exchange SF Bay sailing war stories.

Thank you,
Rob

Re: Seattle Lake Washington area first and on to Vancouver

Thanks David,
If you're interested in chatting sometime over beers, I am available. I have very little knowledge of the local waters. I would enjoy hearing your thoughts and especially in regards to my ideas on sailing the local area. I am also looking for new docking/moorage. I am currently on the Brokers dock on Lake Union. He says I can stay as long as needed... I would prefer a better location for easier access, better parking and reaching open waters without dealing with bridges and locks.
Mark

Well I hate to tell you but you picked a bad time to buy a 45’ boat….as far as moorage is concerned. There are long wait lists most places and the prices are “not low”….

One thing to look into: in Anacortes, you can store your boat on the hard for pretty cheap….and then pay to have it lifted in. If you are wishing to sail all the time, this gets expensive, but if you are just going to drop in less frequently for longer trips it might make sense…..and much easier to work on your boat when it’s on the hard….which some newly-acquired boats need.

….and the San Juan’s are right there….

Yeah, I would get the boat up to Anacortes. Great access to the San Juans. Last I checked they often have slips available in the winter time, but I could be 'not up to date'....

Hi Mark -

I got your email and definitely ready to get out sailing. Regarding your moorage issue - I will send you a PM.

Thank you

The dates on this thread appear to be off. Today is 10-17-23. Hunter is mine and ready to sail! Looking for nicer weather and some crew for some sailing around Lake Washington.

Re: Seattle Lake Washington area first and on to Vancouver

Hi Mark. Congrats on the new boat. I live in Ballard and am available to sail if you need more crew.

I had a Catalina 30 I sailed for a few years out of Seward, AK. I had to sell when I moved to Seattle earlier this year. I did the ASA 101, 103, and 104 crash course in 2020 before buying that boat. This year I decided I wanted more training so I completed a RYA Yachtmaster Coastal course/certification in March-May 2023 which led to a 2-week gig in Croatia working a flotilla. I am also a member of the Seattle Sailing Club but admit I haven't been very active. Just looking to get more time on the water, on larger yachts and meet some good people. Feel free to reach me at AKGeo@pm.me
