SAN JOSE DEL CABO TO LA PAZ OR BASH BACK TO SAN DIEGO

AHOY
I AM DECIDING ON WHETHER I WANT TO CONTINUE SOUTH TO LA PAZ OR BASH BACK TO SAN DIEGO. I CAME DOWN WITH A FULL CREW. I HAVE ONE LEFT.
THE BOAT IS AT A MARINA IN SAN JOSE DEL CABO, GETTING THE WINDLESS FIXED.
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN BEING CREW. PLEASE HAVE EXPERIENCE SAILING THESE REGIONS. ALSO HAVE NAVIGATION AND MECHANICAL EXPERIENCE
WITH A UNIVERSAL DIESEL ENGINE.

CREW WOULD HELP PAY FOR FUEL, ANY SLIP FEES, AND PROVISIONING.

I HAVE A VERY NICE 34.5 CATALINA. PLEASE EMAIL ME WITH A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF, THEN WE WILL TALK. THANK YOU
CANDACE

I'm sure crew will sign up to bash back to SD and get to pay for fuel & food and provide engine repairs complementary. My dream!

There were two parts to this email. One sailing around and one to bash back. I am always surprised by rude comments others often make to those who post here. For this particular post, others can ask questions. Speak of what they need or a counter offer.

Who in their right mind would want to pay for fuel to do the Baja bash? Especially with a questionadle Boat. Maybe you should rephrase your request!

Re: SAN JOSE DEL CABO TO LA PAZ OR BASH BACK TO SAN DIEGO

For what it's worth, in my experience, the owner has paid for all boat related costs including fuel, repairs and slip fees, if any. Food cost is shared. For deliveries like the Bash, the owner also paid for the plane ticket to get the crew to the boat.

If you're trying to decide whether to go north to La Paz and cruise the Sea for awhile or do the Bash, I'd head north. La Paz is a great place to base your cruising out of. It's also got great street food.

You are just a few leisurely days from La Paz. For what it is worth my elderly wife and I bashed back alone and while there were 60 really crumby hours starting immediately at the north end of Isla Cedros, the rest was a lot of fun and we stopped at a bunch of places we missed because we went south with the Haha.

Sir, ye asketh too much from crew. Sharing cost of food is fair. I’m trying to not be rude. But are your finances such that you feel compelled to recoup costs of ownership by taking such a stance?

Get over to La Paz by car or bus and hang out at the clubhouse at Marina de La Paz and post your need on the bulletin board there AND announce your plan on the morning radio net.

Good luck. BTW, La Paz is to your North.

I gave him the benefit of the doubt and just assumed it was a typo.

Re: SAN JOSE DEL CABO TO LA PAZ OR BASH BACK TO SAN DIEGO

Having enjoyed May 1988 to Jan. 1990 cruising the Sea of Cortez and down to the Panama Canal, my wife and I loved cruising around La Paz. We stayed at marinas in La Paz for months, enjoying friendly people, good food, close to good fishing and more. We had intended to stay in that area about 6 months, but it was too good to leave, so we cruised for 1 1/2 years. We often wish we had stayed on the Sea of Cortez.

Over the years prior I had sailed from Mazatlan & Cabo delivering race boats back to SoCal and it's not too bad. We hopped anchorage to anchorage, leaving around 0200 & motor sailing until the NW wind became unpleasant. I never considered it to be a "bash", but I have been sailing over 60 years. Love it!

If you can't find anyone willing to pay, I can bring your boat back to San Diego at my normal rates plus travel, fuel, provisioning, customs, and marina expenses.
