Welcome!

You've come to the right place. I love to see it when another person of the female persuasion comes on because it's her idea and not someone else's. There's lots of good info here and if you just go places around New Bern where sailors hang out and keep asking to learn, someone will teach you. That's what I did and now I'm on my 5th boat. Good luck to you!

Is there a forum or group that posts such information?

Check out the Women Who Sail group on FaceBook. There are over 8,000 members and some of them are in the New Bern area and would be glad to help you out.

Tammy, Boatman61 (boaty) is one of our resident sailors extraordinaire (delivery skipper) who moonlights here as a comedian...

Red's just one example of a ton of worthy female salty types here (in a good way)

If I made a list, I'd omit more than a few by accident... But I can think of 10+ off the top of my head...

Tammy, Contact Omar Sails in New Bern. It is run by Craig and Katherine Beavers. They host a monthly get together for local sailors. Craig is a retired marine and they are both great people and very much involved in the local sailing community. Mention S/V GeWil to them.

I forgot to mention that there is a marina on base at Cherry point with a great group. It is Hancock Yacht Club. Craig Beavers is the president of their yacht club I believe.

Re: New Sailor To Forum - New Bern, NC !

Little T
I second what GeWill said, contact Craig or Katerine @Omar Sails in New Bern 252-728-5598 sailsbyomar@gmail.com

He has also been promoting a "sailors get together" once a month at the Brown Pelican on Broad St., just around the corner for the Chelsa, you probably know the location, also the NYRA, Neuse River Yacht Racing Assoc. should be starting there Winter racing series very soon, some boats may be looking for crew.
Again thank you for your service
