Mexico/Costa Rica to French Polynesia

December timeframe, starting in Puerto Vallarta, may go directly to Marquesas, or sail to Costa Rica first, then west. Eventually crossing to New Zealand or The Philippines.

Crew can join anywhere along the way. Prefer one or two to join in Mexico for at least to Tahiti. Boat expenses are on me, share food & fuel. Fun cruising with a scuba compressor.

Its a 41 foot center cockpit ketch, cruise equipped.

PM for discussion & details.

I hope you realize that December is prime cyclone season in the South Pacific.

Actually, that statement is not true for the entire South Pacific.

Mexico, Central America to French Polynesia is typically just fine from December to April, which is where I plan to be.

Interested as I'm returning to my home in Mexico in September and then making future sailing opportunities for 2023.

Suit yourself, but you might do a bit of research, especially for El Nino years.

Don - When you sailed south from San Diego, what month did you depart, how far south did you sail, and what month did you turn west for French Polynesia?

Re: Mexico/Costa Rica to French Polynesia

The first trip we left San Diego in January, coastal hopped to Golfito, Costa Rico then set out the Galapagos with a stop in Isla Cocos the first week in April. That trip we went down to Easter Island, Pitcairn, Gambier, then up to join the milk run in the Marquesas. We did see the damage from the December cyclones in Raiatea and Pago Pago.

The second trip was from the Caribbean, where we departed Panama for the Galapagos on April 15. This time we sailed straight to the Marquesas from the Galapagos.

The European boats started leaving Panama about March 1, but the peak of the canal crossings and departures was usually Easter week.

Re: Mexico/Costa Rica to French Polynesia

My first crossing left San Diego at the end of November and sailed along Pacific Mexico to Puntareas, Costa Rica, then on to the Panama canal. We left for the Galapagos in April then went on to Tahiti.

Seems we are on the same page.
