Re: Mexico/Costa Rica to French Polynesia

We now have one long-term crew, Thomas. He has agreed to sail on the boat for a year. That may take him as far as Tonga. He will join the boat in Mexico in mid-September.

Still open for others to join.

We have another long-term crew, Ivan. He has agreed to sail aboard for 2 years, or longer. He has 4 years experience at local costal sailing and now want to do an ocean crossing.

Interesting.

There have been cyclones in between Mexico and the Marquesas.

There is a hurricane slowing down to tropical storm now at:

24.01° N, 124.35° W

Re: Mexico/Costa Rica to French Polynesia

Marquesas is about 8d S ...they don't spawn that close to the equator. Its a great place to wait out cyclone season if allowed to stay long term. This year it looks like no long stays but at least cruisers can clear in at Nuka.

Around the middle or end of May, 2023. Will be in the Marquesas before Tahiti.

Re: Mexico/Costa Rica to French Polynesia

We presently have a crew of three and could have one more.

Sailing away from San Carlos, Sonora on 09 Nov. Across to Baja for 5 weeks of gunkholeing and scuba until La Paz.

On to Socorro Island for a week of scuba there, then to Acapulco. From there Golfito, Costa Rica, or directly to Easter Island.

After Easter; Pitcairn, Gambier, the Australs, and then north to Tahiti and Moorea.

Its 6 months to Tahiti. Who wants to go for it?

Why would you bypass the Tuamotu's? Fakarava has some of the best scuba in the world.

Because the Australs only get a few cruising boats a year. It is still real Polynesia for the most part.

Mexico/Costa Rica to French Polynesia

Ditto the question about missing the Tuamotus. Big mistake. 6 months is maybe a little short on time but I’m doing this next year - Marquesas, Tuamotus, Tahiti then south to the Australs, wait for a weather window and hike east to the Gambier, then either back to Tuamotus or Tahiti and west. It almost 12 months in French Poly.

Wish I could join you for the 5 weeks or a little more, but I am building out my scuba kit and still have quite a few things to purchase. Im in Ensenada now, which is why it's so appealing.

Your big trip is just one year too early for me or else I'd join in a heartbeat.

Be Safe and Have Fun!
