Licensed, professional Captain needed in Bahamas

My wife and I will be taking possession of a 40-foot ketch in the Bahamas in about a month. Our insurance company requires us to get 'signed off' by a licensed, professional captain before we can operate the boat on our own.

We have a lot of sailing experience, including single handing a small wooden boat from the west coast of FL to NY, crewing 1000 miles down the coast of Brazil on a Westsail 42, crewing from St. Martin to Puerto Rico on the same boat, and crewing from Penzance to Brest on a 46-foot boat. That is in addition to 20+ years of boat ownership.

We will actually be buying the boat in St. Lucia, and then 'crewing' for the current owners who will supervise the passage from St. Lucia to the Bahamas. On that passage they will train us in the boat's systems, as well as how to handle her in a variety of circumstances.

Bottom line, I hope we will be well prepared by the time we arrive in the Bahamas, but we still need that sign off.

Here is the form the insurance company requires.

You will need to be pre-approved by the insurance company (Lloyds), so we will need your CV and credentials.

If you are interested in this job and are located somewhere in the Bahamas, please email me.

Thanks!

-- John

Re: Licensed, professional Captain needed in Bahamas

With your experience and background in boat ownership, I'd be looking for another Insurance company. I have friends who purchased anywhere from a 200k to 1.2 mill yacht as first time owners and none have needed what your Insurer is asking for.

Thanks to everyone who responded. My mom passed away right after I posted, so I have been focused on making funeral arrangements, but I will get back to everyone who contacted me on Monday. Sorry for the delay.

I'm honestly sorry for your loss, I have lost both mine, years ago. It's not easy.
