lagoon 400 delivery BVI to St. kitts

hi,

I need a piece of advice:
I have bought a lagoon 400, in the BVI;
engines are not running for now- is it practical/possible to deliver it from Tortola to st Kitts by sails alone?
in/out of marina using some tow.
recommending skippers who can do it , appreciated .

regards,

Flo

I am not a delivery captain, but I hope you find the following helpful.

Friendly Suggestion: post answers to the following:

1. Are the sails and rigging in working order?

2. Is the boat seaworthy in all other respects?

3. Does the boat have a RIB with a large working outboard motor? Describe Size and HP.

Yes.. just need to make long tacks to do it.. 3 possibly 4 tacks should get you into a position to run down to St Kitts.. somewhere like St Barts.. or even SXM if the winds are E or N of E.
Should be fun..

Headed to Tortola on Friday to deliver a cat to Exuma.

I would be happy to discuss moving your boat after that.

It is possible to do what you are suggesting, and not that difficult given the prevailing winds. If you are talking about moving a hurricane damaged boat that you bought I would be more concerned about the structural integrity of the boat and rig. It sounds like you are not going on this trip yourself but sending someone to pick up a boat that was wrecked and have probably never seen. You then want the delivery slipper to put his ass on the line trying to get it moved.
I wouldn't want that job. Boat needs someone to survey everything before moving it.

hi,

you are making a lot of assumptions, and with all due respect these assumptions are based on thin air. If your comment had any good intentions, you d have asked about different aspects instead of speculating . First off all, I ll be on the boat, it s just I m just a day skipper-I m not sending anyone to do some "dirty job" for me, as you insinuate ; second thing ,boat will be surveyed before the trip;third, if you re not interested, why bother? the topic is about who can do it, not about who won t. No hard feelings,

regards,

Flo

Re: lagoon 400 delivery BVI to St. kitts

Someone might be able to do what you want but I would not be confident.

I don't know how to raise the mainsail without using at least one engine. On my Lagoon 400 I have the square top main and it is necessary to point at least the sail into the wind directly to raise the main. Otherwise the battens catch on the lines holding the sail cover.

I also use at least one motor when reefing. Again I point the boat so the sail is flapping. This facilitates pulling down the leach of the sail.

Good luck

If full sail is to hard just go up to the first reef.. and no.. not the first one you come to.
As for head to wind.. use the jib to point as far as possible then let the mainsheet and traveller right out to feather the sail as you raise it.
