ECUADOR TO GALAPAGOS
I am looking for one crew to assist in sailing my 42 foot cutter from Ecuador to the Galapagos departing end of this month. The boat is a newer, clean, safe boat I had built for water sailing">blue water sailing, equipped with the standard safety and communications gear. I have 20,000 offshore miles and can provide references from prior crew. I pay all boat expenses, you pay to get to the boat and for your own shoreside expenses. More information and photos at crewbay dot com under boats available for crew, "Gillean Guy". If interested, reply here or send an e-mail to sailboat dot gillean at gmail dot com.
Cheers,
Douglas McLean

Re: ECUADOR TO GALAPAGOS
Hi,
I was wondering where about in Ecuador you would want to pick up crew? I'm looking at how I might get there.
Regards,
Colin.

Re: ECUADOR TO GALAPAGOS
Hi Mike,
The two principal staging areas for sailing from Ecuador to the Galapagos are the Puerto Lucia Yacht Club in La Libertad/Salinas (very few boats), and Bahia de Caraquez further north. You might send an inquiry to the manager of the marina at the latter location: Gene Tatum (tatum051 at gmail dot com).
Cheers,
Douglas McLean

Re: ECUADOR TO GALAPAGOS
Doug, are you currently in Gene's marina? How has that been? Good access to groceries and other stores? Have you also been down to Salinas?
Thanks!

Re: ECUADOR TO GALAPAGOS
Hello Flyinggriki,
No, I didn't go in up there--made landfall at Puerto Lucia Yacht Club (La Libertad/Salinas). Pretty good for provisioning, but the marina has issues, including only Med moor, very expensive, spotty internet, poor services, few cruising boats. Basically it's a marina for wealthy Ecuadorans who don't really want visitors. Be advised that just landing in Ecuador will cost you $450. Apparently the country doesn't want cruisers either . . .

Re: ECUADOR TO GALAPAGOS
An agent is not required here as Puerto Amistad is allowed to represent the yachts without actually being a ship's agent.
The new owner of the marina,*Gene Tatum, can arrange clearance as follows:
Agency International Check In or Check Out $185.00*(it includes*port captain, migration, customs, taxi driver, agency)
Agency National Check In or Check Out $120.00
Pilot for entry or entry or departure $35.00
Thank you! Sorry to hear about the attitude iin Salinas. Guess Gene is the only friendly stop. Still over $300 in and out though....

Re: ECUADOR TO GALAPAGOS
Yes, I've heard good things about his place. If I had known how cruiser unfriendly it is down here in Salinas, I would have come in there.

Re: ECUADOR TO GALAPAGOS
Hey Douglas, everything ok?
Remember I told you we were working on making the agent optional in Puerto Lucia?
We made it, finally after years of battle.
I'm sorry that you were one of the last ones having to pay that.
Oh by the way if people go to Puerto Lucia ask for the South pier, it is almost half price of the other side.
The internet is still not very good, I'll continue to fight for that now ;-)
Greetings from Ecuador,
Arnaud

Re: ECUADOR TO GALAPAGOS
I spent a week at the yacht last Oct. Although not for the budget-minded, I felt very comfortable. No problems really.
