Captain Wanted urgently

I need an Experienced Captain to sail or motor my 34 foot Cat from the Port Hacking, Royal Motor Boat and Yacht club up to Port Stephens on Friday and Saturday,

The weather looks good on both those days.
Southerly winds and waves,

Its a distance of 135 Nmiles, 250 Klms,
At 5 Knots on the motor it will take 30 Hours,

I have enough diesel on board to do the whole trip and then some.
Less if sailing on the cockpit operated 150 Genoa,

Reason being, I fell over on the Green Slime on the Bundeena Ferry Pier and ripped all the muscles in both my arms rendering me totally incapable of driving or sailing my Cat,
The only way I can heal properly is to be totally off the boat at Port Stephens under the care of my G/F who is a nurse,

I will be on Board purely as a watch keeper and to offer advice if any thing fails,
I cant even do up or undo the mooring lines,
I was put here by the search and rescue Boat people who got me off the Bouy in Bate Bay where I thought I could recover,

I did seriously under estimate the damage I had done to both arms,
I was admitted to hospital and had Xrays and a CT Scan,
I have no broken bones.
I do have 6000 Nmiles, all offshore experience on my Cat,

Its a 2003, Gemini 105MC Sailing catamaran. 34 foot long and 14 feet wide,
27 HP Mitsubishi diesel Motor, And a single drive leg,

Contact Brian, 0417 150 649

Re: Captain Wanted urgently

I have contacted four captains so far,
Thy are all booked out and are leaving from tomorrow till Thursday,
But it is short notice,
Some thing should happen in the next couple of days,
Another One will ring me in the morning,

Going to the Quacks in the morning, For more painkillers, They dont cure me, But they certainly hide the pain, Hahahaha

Cheers Brian,

Re: Captain Wanted urgently

Brian,

So sorry to hear you've hurt yourself. The same thing happened to a friend of ours, but only did one arm, fortunately for him, in Pittwater.

I've found that sometimes it is better to have the pain--of course only you can decide-- but it is your body warning you. Those soft tissue injuries take for bloody ever to heal, and it is easier to reinjure and further impede healing when the pain meds keep you comfortable. I'd use them to help in sleeping, though, if the pain wakes you then.

I PMed you, I only need one person to drive or sail the boat,
Its very easy to single hand my small Cat,
Ive done 6000 Nmiles on it single handed,

Set the Autopilot and then sit back and relax, Its Boring as Bat ****, Hahaha
I have two GPS's. Garmin and Lowrance,

Genoa is operated from the cockpit with two ropes, One up and one down,
I only sail it down wind, As it gets battered up wind, Hence Friday and Saturday, Good following winds and waves,
I will be onboard as watch keeper, So they wont be doing it Solo,

Port Hacking is just near Cronulla, About 3 Klms, There is a train station there, Its a $17-00 Cab fare to the Royal Motor Boat and Yacht club, at Port hacking,

I do intend to pay him or her for their help,
A Motel in Port Stephens and food to recover from the trip, Then I can put them on the Bus or Train back to Sydney or Pittwater,
It would be quicker and easier than a plane,

The other Captain I had lined up is now unavailable,
So Im still requiring a captain to sail or drive my boat to Port Stephens, ASAP,

Its a 30 hour trip, Max, at 5 knots on the diesel, If there is no wind,

It will be an overnighter, I travel a lot at night,

Thanks, Brian,

Went to a Local Doctor today for pain Killers, Total Idiot, Basically gave me aspirin,
Averil is going to complain about him, She is very wild about it, She is a Nurse that manages hospitals,

So I went back to the hospital and got some good painkillers, After Averil rang them and explained the situation,
I have no idea on pills as I never take drugs of any kind,

The pills kill the pain, Or hide it, Then I think Im cured and start doing things, which only make my injuries worse,
But I do now realise I need to get off the boat totally or I will never heal,

I got a severe back injury in Bass Strait when a big wave came over the back and smashed a lot of gear in a Gale, It was over 70 knots and 6 metre waves, I spent four days anchored behind Gabo Island till that one blew over,
Then I fell off the back of the boat and twisted my shoulder at Ulladulla,

Now this one, Falling on the green mossy slime on the Bundeena Ferry Pier,
This is all in the last 3 months,

Averil knows that sitting still is not some thing I do well, Hahaha

Cheers, Brian,

Re: Captain Wanted urgently

Thank you all for your help,
I now have a bloke lined up that will sail my Cat up to Port Stephens for me,
He will be here tomorrow to check out the boat and get ready to sail or drive it, Depending on the wind,
He is mainly Mono's but has driven Cats before,
Cats are easier to sail or motor than Mono's, So he wont have problems with it,
Hardest part will be to take it to the fuel dock and get the second tank filled with diesel,
Then we will have enough diesel in the two tanks to motor all the way if needed,

I rattle when I walk due to the pills inside me, But at least the pain is almost tolerable,
I will be glad when I dont have to take any more pills,
Every movement I make on the boat causes me pain,
So being off the boat and not moving will allow me to heal faster,

Thanks again all,
Cheers, Brian,

Re: Captain Wanted urgently

^^^^You're right, Mr. B. I have found that it is easier to keep pain away than to make it go away, too. Averil will tell you all about that, if you ask. Trust her experience.

And, glad you found someone to deliver the boat for you. You'll be able to walk for health, and allow those injuries to heal for you.

Ann

Re: Captain Wanted urgently

Whoopie,
Tomorrow we fill the second tank with diesel,
Friday morning we sail,
The marina has told Bruce he can leave his car in the car park here for a few days while he delivers me and the boat to Port Stephens,
That will make it easier all round as he has to drive from Canberra,
He said he usually does a few delivery's a year, So that makes feel a lot better,
He is looking forward to sailing my boat,

Cheers, Brian,

Re: Captain Wanted urgently

Im currently at Soldiers Point Marina, Port Stephens, for a month (Minimum) to heal my body,
Xrays have shown no broken bones,
I have had cortisone injections into both my shoulders under Ultrasound for the right spot,
Yesterday and today, Full of Pain killers, So the pain is a lot less,
No Guarantees if it will work or not,

Im sitting here doing nothing, Thats the hardest part of it all,
I cant even repair anything on board that needs repairing,

Re: Captain Wanted urgently

Bummer, Brian, but there are worse places to be stuck. The jobs will wait for you, quietly multiplying while your back is turned, and when you are whole again you can attack with vigor.

Hope the medicos can help with the curing, and that the cortisone is a one time thing.

Ain't cruising grand?

Hang in there

Jim
