Crew Wanted: Captain from NYC to Duluth, MN

I am considering the purchase of a 49' Gulfstar Motor Yacht. While I have experience sailing (up to 42'), I have no experience with twin screw M/Ys. I would like to find a captain to assist/teach while cruising from NYC to Duluth, MN.

I am assuming you will be using the Erie Canal to get to the Great Lakes.
Some of the bridges on the Erie Canal have low clearances.
Before buying the boat please check that you can safely pass under all the bridges.

I do not have the experience myself to do the job but here is a rough estimate of what I would charge.
Distance 1,500 Knots
Speed 10 Knots
Time per day moving 10 hours (Assuming 2 people doing the move)
The trip should be about 15 days (Assuming no delays for weather, equipment, etc.)

Cost for an experienced Captain is about $300 per day
Plus the cost of travel to NYC and return from Duluth.

So for just the Captain it would be about
300 * 15 = $4.500
Travel to NYC $500
Travel back from Duluth $500
So about $5,500.

Hi - I am an experienced captain, and interested in your delivery. I am USCG licensed for 100 tons both power and sail; familiar with twin screw motor yachts, most current electronics, and teaching while under way. I have done many deliveries along the Eastern seaboard from Maine to Bermuda, Florida, and the Caribbean both at sea and the inland waterway. I am not familiar with your inland route, but that should not be a problem.
How many crew will be aboard? I assume your boat will cruise 10-15 knots, or will this trip require engine break-in? Have you considered bridge clearances and locks? Do you plan to sleep aboard (at anchor or marinas, or both)? Lots to think about. I can certainly help with trip planning if you like.

I have not held a Captain's license for 30 years but I lived aboard my 37' Constellation for 5 years and have driven several twin screws as part of my duties including a very long thin boat that had no bow thruster.(55' x 12' built for canals and a bear to turn without backing in narrow channels)
I could use a long trip for my soul and willing to impart knowledge for room and board.

That bruhaha was due to the fact that the ship was a foreign flagged vessel in the USA on a commercial tour. U.S. flagged vessels are exempt, as are foreign flagged vessels that are not being operated commercially.
