Re: Bahamas to Azores

Hello Gianluca,

I am a Canadian with Portuguese heritage and ability to speak the language. In May 2017 I sailed with a friend (the captain) and a third crew member from Guadeloupe to Boston on a 45ft Hunter. I assisted with preparing the boat (cleaning and repairs). I was selected to be the cook and had the primary responsibility for obtaining provisions for the passage. I did day and night watches and made minor course changes via the autopilot while sailing with the wind. I have experience sailing a 21 ft catamaran on lake Ontario.

It should be noted that during the Guadaloupe to Boston passage we encountered sudden and unforecasted 50+ knot winds and lost our main and jib sails (which were reefed at the time). We motored for several days through the storm until reaching Martha's Vineyard. I was an excellent learning experience.

Regards,

Philip Zacarias
