Thailand Advice

Hello all,

I know enough about Thailand, from wife and visits , not to be naive but I know nothing about sail cruising in the area. Wife used to live in Chowlong so I know a little about the land side but want to know more about having boat moored, long term etc. Costs for services etc

Yes that time of life 2.4 years and we leave to point my(our) older Dufour35 South. So any help advice warnings experience greatly appreciated.

Bad holding and too many cowboys 'driving' tourist boats. Ao Yon, first bay to stbd. as you come into Ao Chalong from the East is a much better bet.

Further to my last post and, maybe, contradicting myself, I was last in Chalong about 6 weeks ago and work has restarted on the marina there. I was standing on the pier, surveying the turmoil and a passing Thai volunteered the comment that it was supposed to be opening in July. I can't pretend that it looked that way to me but, in Thailand, you never know!

Best long term marina is yacht haven, there 2 weeks ago and it is sweet, cooler, as it on the ocean, not in the mangroves, and you can anchor nearby for free and pay to use their facilities. 40 mins by road from phuket town though, 20 mins from boat lagoon. Your yacht can stay for 6 months, you, only 2 weeks, or 1 or 2 months, depending on how you enter the country.
I have stayed at ao charon, Patong, boat lagoon, and for long term the yacht haven looked the best? Patong is cooler than ao, but busy with jet skis and onshore.................
Yacht haven is very close to the phang nga? bay, very pretty cruising area!

Live also in Thailand and have my boat on the way to Thailand in few weeks.
The boat stay now in Sri Lanka, and I only wait for same crew members to show up, to help me to sail from Sri to Thailand.

Ahoy Hans, I would like to help but I must return to Langkawi in mid March to take delivery of my new aluminium 39' yacht!
good luck with the trip, I should be in Phuket early april, maybe catch up?

Hi there surfmachine !

Hope you still are ok, and your new boat will be delivered soon.
I are still waiting for same more persons, for my crew to sail home my boat from Sri Lanka.

Looking for the end of March or beginning of April to leave, Sri Lanka.

You say you can recommend BOAT LAGOON on Phuket for to keep the boat at. And Yacht Haven also. Do you know any good places for mooring ?

Need to know as I will fly 13 -14 of March to Sri Lanka to prepare my boat
( Rhodes Reliant 41 feet YAWL rigged ) for the short jump to Thailand.

Any persons who can be interested to sail with me ??
Have place for 1 or 2 persons more, in the boat.

Please send me same advices and also tell me if you have any you can recommend for the sailing.

Ahoy Hans, best anchorage and some mooring is at Ao charon, the bay with a big jetty on the eastern side of phuket, where the immigration and boat harbour master office it, at the end of the jetty, on the beach.
Dont come in at night as there are a few wrecks there.
dont know of any crew, sorry!
