Cool South East Monsoon in the Seychelles - Weather

Hi everybody

I'm now back from 4 weeks sailing in the Seychelles. This was my first trip there during the SE monsun. I've had 4 sailing holidays there before, but they have all been during the NW monsun.

We had waves of 2-4 meters, winds of 10-30 knots and rain almost every day on this trip during the peak of the SE monsun (July-August).

On my previous trips (October, November, January and February) to the Seychelles I've mostly experienced flat water and little wind - conditions like in the Cruisers Forum banner on top of the page (Photo from the Seychelles October 2002).

Anybody interested in discussing the monsun in the Indian Ocean?

We are going to the Seychelles on a Lagoon 404 for 7 nights mid July. We have booked a skipper as none of us have much experience. Any advice.

Monsoon hits the shores of Oman/Yemen each year - the "Khareef" as it is known in arabic. Your wave height sounds about right, there is no way I would want to be out those conditions for a long time.

In Oman the "Khareef" officially starts 21st June - some years it being stronger bringing cloud and humidity up to the capital.
