Apparently pirates are back in business. Question is their support from land.

It was all over when the pirates realized that the tanker had been chartered by some Somali businessmen, who knew where the pirates lived and had some serious muscle behind them. You might not be so lucky.

. A Somali official says foreign naval forces in international waters shot dead two pirates and wounded another when the bandits attempted to hijack a ship on Saturday.

Ahmed Abdullahi, an official with the anti-piracy force in the semi-autonomous Puntland region, said the two killed men were part of a group of nine pirates in a boat approaching an unidentified ship near the Gulf of Aden when a naval force opened fire on them.

He said the six other pirates survived the attack and escaped.

Interesting and worth noting.

Where did you get that info? Not doubting, just asking.

Re: Somali pirates hijack first commercial ship since 2012

We sailed down through here about 6 months ago no problems whatever. There were heaps of fishing boats around Babel Mandeb and a few came out to say hello near Yemen. They look rough but arent pirates. Maybe we were lucky but reports from other parts of the world look more menacing than this route at present.
