Penang bridges

I have passed beneath both the old bridge and the nearly completed new bridge a number of times in the last couple of years. Today I was heading for the old bridge and noticed a warning on my navionics chart on teh IPad informing me that I should obtain written permission before passing the bridges. Ignorance being bliss, I continued on and passed beneath both bridges without incident but wondered if those who cruise this area regularly obtain this written permission or is this a new thing and is it enforced.

Re: Penang bridges

When we were in Georgetown last year, I asked at the marina if it was necessary to get permission and if any of the local yachts ever did. The answer to both questions was no.

Being Malysia, I would suggest that no one would answer your call if you did try to ask and no one would care if you didn't. As you say, ignorance is bliss and plying stupid always works here.

No troubles in Malaysia!!!
