Thumbs up Indonesian Entry from Malaysia?

I am in Lagnkawi and want to cruise down through Indonesia starting march 2010, surfing mainly. What is the best port of entry? what is the current state on the import boat tax? thanks.

Hey Surfmachine,
I'm planning on doing similar voyage but just for the months of July and August. Would you mund keeping me posted on how it's going, and what needs to be done as far as the question you asked, and also what conditions you expect. I spent the last 10 summers in Indonesia, surfing, and want to now cruise it on my own. Cheers, Randy

Thumbs up Surf cruise through Mentawis

Howzit Randy!
I will be there on Sunday arvo, 6th Dec, and there is a lady at the marina who does it every year and can organise permits etc, I will let you know how it all works! I also have been surfing Indo for 8 years, spent around 14 months there in total, but I am buying this Adams 31' cruiser, all set up in Langkawi, with a view to sail around the Nth end of Sumatra and down the islands. This new import duty complicates things, maybe too much trouble for Indo?
What sort of boat do you plan to use?
Keith

Hi Surfmachine,
You might check with the folks on Makani Kai (ex the Gold Coast) at sailblogs.com - they appear to have spent a good deal of time sailing and surfing on the west coast of Sumatra, also moving their boat back and forth between Malaysia and Indo.
Good luck.

Hello Surfmachine and Paul,
Thanks for the good info. I was thinking of using a cruising set up sloop, from 35 to 45 feet. How much did you pay for the Adams 31' if I may ask, and did you get from private party or broker? Thanks, Dingoman
