Indian Visas in Thailand

Has anyone RECENT experience (ie during 2012) of getting an Indian Visa whilst in Thailand?

As I understand it, it should be possible.
VFS, the agency that processes visas on the Indians behalf, does explicitly mention non-thai nationals on their web site and that it has agreements with specific Thai Post Office locations to handle the application and process the fee. I would feel happier knowing if anyone had used this method.

Emotion Travel Agency in Phuket confirmed to a friend in June 2012 that they would still be able to process applications. Has anyone any experience of dealing with them?

There is an Indian embassy in Bangkok where you can get Visas for India. I guess if you are in Phuket you may be considering the Andaman Islands. Note that this requires a special visa. Again this can be obtained from the Indian embassy on Bangkok.

If going to the Andamans, also note their very stringent eco-laws. Zero plastic etc.

We don't really want the extra cost of travel/stay in Bangkok so would like to do it in Phuket if possible.
Also, we were advised to get the Cruising permit on arrival which lasts 30 days whereas the one issued in advance is only 15 days.
