Indian Ocean headed West Under South Africa

Our plans during the next few years will take us from
Sri Lanka to Maldives
to Seychelles
to Madacasgar and Mozambique
South Africa.
Then across to Brazil.

Would welcome comments from anyone with experience sailing in any of these areas or these routes. Haven't found much info available so am looking for personal experience. Would also welcome info regarding resource material and where can be purchased.

Thanks in advance.

Judy -

We're headed that way this year (with a stop in Chagos, so long as the regs still permit it), so I've been scouting out the same sorts of info for the past month or so. I used Jimmy Cornell's World Cruising Routes to confirm that our planned route and schedule was feasible, and then I went hunting online for accounts of recent experiences. We also have a copy of the Indian Ocean Cruising Guide, purchased online from Landfall Navigation, but I haven't spent any time with it yet so I can't vouch for its usefulness.

Check out the Hacking Family's website. They did a fantastic job of documenting their Indian Ocean cruise.

Stolen Kiss's blog has great info on the Andaman Islands (which you didn't mention, but might want to check out) as well as some other stops in the North Indian.

I'll be blogging as we go, so if any of the rules and regs change, I'll post about it.

Cheers,
Danika

Thanks, Danika. I am familiar with the Hacking Family website and agree that it is very useful. Was not aware of Stolen Kiss but will check out their website also.

Will bookmark your website and follow as you progress along. Lucky us to find someone who will be a year ahead of us so we can benefit from your experiences.

Also thanks for mentioning the Indian Ocean guide available from Landfall Navigation. Will be visiting the states next month and will order it.

Judy,

Visit Tony Herrick's web site for all the guides and info on a lot of the route you wish to take. Cruising Connections for new and used paper marine navigation charts, cruising guides and passage planning notes, pilots, flags, sailing books and marine ebooks .
