I have a son who is going to be in India in late August and looking for a sailboat going to or near Thailand. He is an experienced sailor, however has never been offshore. A really great guy though and easy to get along with.

This reply is a year late, so will be no help and you'll never see it (there are so many threads that some just disappear).

But if anyone else is interested, go to Galle, Sri Lanka. It's by far the most heavily visited port by yachts in South Asia, though occasionally I saw boats anchored off Cochin (Kerala) and Panjim (Goa) in India.

The boats in Galle will mostly be headed west to the Red Sea and to Africa (Dec-March) or south to Chagos, but then in lesser numbers will start sailing the other way, to the Andaman, before the tropical storm season.
