The Red Sea Pilot has excellent information about the transit through the Red Sea, and C-map has good charts that we used during our trip. We only had to pull out the paper charts a couple of times.
You are going to be going to windward for large portions of the trip, so have a boat that sails well to windward.

We did not stop in India on our trip. We sailed off the coast of India on the way to Oman. We then sailed through the Gulf of Aden and up the Red Sea. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip. There are many interesting destinations in the Red Sea, but just be sure that when you visit the deserted islands that there aren't any land mines that could cause problems - like Difnein Island. One German website calls Difnein Island by the name of Death Mine Island. The Red Sea Pilot should keep you out of trouble.
We talked to people who stopped in India, and they reported more than an average amount of Red tape and officialdom when coming into port. They also had a problem with kerosene being delivered to their yacht rather than diesel fuel, so make sure you are getting what you ordered.

I would like very much to leave in March-early April! but, I am afraid, we wouldn't be ready before next year!
Anyway if during your way from Spain to red sea, you pass trough Italy, Toscany (Livorno or Pisa) or Lazio (Roma), please and you need information or assistance, please, do not hesitate to contact me!

Thanks, that's very kind! We're still finalising plan. Unsure whether to do a "relaxed" cruise or "fast dash". Will know next week!

Med to India!
We are currently in India and have sailed togethe with VDG rally over here. It has been a great trip but would recomend to find some sailors on your own. Sailing overhere is somewhat different, a lot of burocracy but, it is all worth it. If you need any info, don't hesitate to contact us or visit our site www.alondrasailing.com/india

Thank you very much for your kind answer. I followed your trip on the web site of the Vasco de Gama Rally and I know that all of you safetly arrived in India.
I hope to be able to do the same trip in the future, maybe in the next edition of the VDG rally...
Thanks and good luck
Raffaella
