Cruising information Phuket / Langkawi

Hello all,

This summer July I am planning a sailing vacation in the region Phuket / Langkawi with my family (wife and 3 teenagers). Since two of my family members become sea sick pretty quickly, I want to charter (bareboat) a catamaran this time.


All advice and information about cruising in this region is very wellcome, especially as to:

• Which charter company to choose from.
• The sailing conditions during that time of year.
• What to do: cruising around Langkawi, cruising around Phang nga bay (Phuket) or to make a one-way trip Phuket - Langkawi of the other way around.

july can be hot ,humid and rainy.
sunsail operate out of royal langkawi yacht club.
with a catamaran you will find plenty of places you can anchor around the island,though big tides and strong currents can make navigation interesting,and landing difficult at low tide.
water is discoloured and swimming can be dangerous due to stinging jelly fish.

sailing to phuket you may find very little wind,but clear water,care needed during thunder storms for onshore winds in exposed anchorages.
lots of fishing boats with nets out.
